A Moment of Peace

Sometimes you just want a moment of peace. Sometimes, it is simply some time for yourself.
A quiet minute.
Is it too much to ask for?
If you have a cat, then the answer will always be yes.
For the cat can have a minute all to himself. He can wonder off to be alone, and have a space that is entirely his.
But if you dare try to do something without him? He will cry at the closed door demanding to be let in.
For the cat is content to be off in his own  whenever you want him by your side. But should you wish for a moment of peace, then he will insist you never be separated.
A cat will never admit to this, but they can be just as clingy and attention hungry as a dog.
The difference is that the cat usually hides it better.

Easy Lunches

1. A sandwich. Hot or cold, full of meat and cheese or stuffed with spreads, a sandwich is something super easy to make.
2. Pasta. Just boil some water, add the noodles and wait until they reach that perfect tender crunch, then drain off the water and serve with a bit of sauce.
3. Tuna fish. Mix it in a salad, eat it on crackers, or even make it into a... sandwich!
4. Leftovers. Who knows what is waiting in the fridge for you to reheat?
5. Eggs. They're not just for breakfast.
6. A salad. Because an easy lunch doesn't have to be bad for you.
7. Fast food. It's quick, it's easy because you don't have to cook, and the only limits are your area and how much you want to spend on lunch.
8. Cereal. Easy to make, easy to eat, and yet another "not just for breakfast" food.
9. Soup. From a can is easiest, but some people are smart enough to think ahead and freeze individual portions for such a time as lunch.
10. Frozen dinners. Quick, promise a little variety, and leave you wishing there had been just a little more. Kind of like your lunch hour, actually.

Masks

Some people put on a mask so they can put on a show. It adds a hint of mystry, and creates a facade wherewith they can take on any role.
Others were a mask to protect their faces while they work. The mask protects them from paint fumes, or smoke, or other hazards within the workspace.
Masks are everywhere around us, disguising faces when when the mask cannot be seen.
For some masks are internalized, and become as much a part of a person as their own face.
For some, the inner mask provides a stregth to do things they though were impossible to achieve. But for others, sometimes that inner mask is found to be harmful, and the person must work out how to live without relying on the lie their inner mask has fed.
Whatever mask you wear, be it physical or internal, please remember that the mask isn't the best part of you. You are so much more than the character of the mask, and you can always become a better version than the you behind the mask.
So every once in a while, allow yourself to remove your mask.

Easy Desserts

1. Chocolate cake. Even when you're making it ftom scratch.
2. Chocolate mousse.
3. Berry trifles.
4. Cheesecake. Once you've figured out how to make and bake it, cheesecakes really aren't that hard.
5. Bread pudding.
6. Cookies!
7. Pie. Surprisingly, some pies are super simple to make.
8. Almond paste. Technically not a dessert by itself, almond paste is almost ridiculously easy to make.
9. Turnovers. The hardest part is making the filling.
10. Some sorbets. If you've got a good machine and recipe, sorbet can be a super fast, easy to make dessert.

A Relaxing Day

The door is locked, while the blinds cover closed windows. No one is around at this time of day, and the shouldn't be back for hours.
It's the perfect time.
Grab what I need, and mix it together while the oven preheats.
Let's make them little, so I've got more to stash in the freezer beneath the vegetables no one wants to eat.
Bake them until they reach that perfect golden color.
Then eat some of these cookies while they're still molten.
Now, wash the evidence, and put it all away.
Hide some in the freezer beneath the vegetables, and some behind the leftovers-no-one-wants-to-touch.
What about the smell? Quick, pull the special "dogs really need a bath" stinky stuff. And encourage the dogs roll around in a garden puddle too, so there will be real stink as well.
Open up the blinds and windows.
Lastly, lean back in your chair and pull out a good book. It's been a relaxing day, after all.

Birthday Present Ideas

1. A book. Because no matter what your interest, there is a book for it.
2. Food. Homemade food is especially good, but pizza always works in a pinch.
3. Craft supplies. Whether you like woodworking, tatting, or card making, extra supplies are warmly welcomed into your stash.
4. Your presence. Especially effective when the birthday person hasn't seen you in a while.
5. A gift card. It says, "I thought of you, but couldn't decide what to get you, so now you can make the decision yourself".
6. New socks. Because everyone needs new socks, and there are a bunch of fun ones to pick from.
7. Smelly stuff. Some folks like to get candles, soaps, and perfumes for their birthday. Just be sure to pick a smell they actually like.
8. Music. Fun tunes to make any day worth rocking out like no one is watching.
9. A hat. Bacause hats are cool.
10. Boxes. Everyone need somewhere to put everything.

Backstabbing

Sometimes, you got to stab someone in the back. Really, it happens. Part of the profession, backstabbing.
Most critters have a soft belly, or gooy eyes, or even weak ankles. My kind don't have any of those weaknesses. Instead, we've got this one itty-bitty spot at the small of our backs, right between the ridged raised plates of our exoskeletons, that remains hatchling-soft.
That soft spot acts as an escape route for our micro-selves, the secondary form that all of my kind have, but only use when our primary form is near death.
If the mirco-self can escape, it'll eventually grow into a new primary form, with most of our previous primary form's memories. It'll even eventually grow its own micro-self, and thus be safe from true death.
But if someone stabs you in just that spot, they'll kill your micro-self.
And each primary form can only create one micro-self.
In my profession, we seek out those who pose a danger to society, who purposefully destroy the micro-selves of innocents, or otherwise break the most important of our laws. We seek them out, and take them in for judgement.
And if they're found to be guilty of the same crimes for over three primary forms, or found to willfully destroy the micro-self of another, we sentance them to backstabbing.
It isn't always easy to stab someone in the back, but that is part of the job.
Doesn't make it any easier, though.
