To have a map

1. So that you know the surrounding area.
2. As a reference for when your story takes place in a fictional land.
3. In order to plan a scavenger hunt.
4. So you can hike within your physical limits.
5. That way you don't get lost. Unless you are not good at reading maps...
6. To learn the names of places.
7. So that you can prepare for the environment of your destination.
8. As fuel for a fire.
9. To take notes on.
10. To hold over your head for shade.
